INSPIRING AND EQUIPPING ORGANISATIONS OF ALL KINDS TO INVOLVE PEOPLE AS CITIZENS, NOT JUST TREAT THEM AS CONSUMERS
The New Citizenship Project is an innovation company, established in 2014 to help catalyse the shift to a more participatory society. We use creative strategy to promote the role of people and encourage better participation in society.
We want to reclaim the idea of the ‘Citizen’. Studies show that when we think of ourselves as just consumers, we’re less likely to tackle society’s biggest problems, from climate change to international inequality.
When we think of ourselves as citizens, we’re more likely to participate, volunteer and come together to make our society stronger and more effective.
We work with all types of organisations to create projects and strategies which involve people. Our work has led to marketing campaigns, documentary films, new social enterprises and new types of participatory membership.
WHAT WE DO
We work in three main ways:
We bring together organisations around a shared inquiry to explore
what the #CitizenShift means for their specific sector and to find solutions by seeing and involving people as more than just Consumers.
We work with individual organisations across a range of sectors,
drawing on our principles to equip them to think of people as Citizens first and foremost.
We develop ideas that embody the story of the Citizen, partnering with people on projects to make these ideas a reality.
Selected examples and case studies from our work
